Applicants must meet certain requirements before they can apply for a work permit. For example, applicants who have received a job offer, from a Canadian employer, in a qualifying occupation may apply for a work permit if their employer has secured a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment(LMIA). Spouses of International Students and Work Permit holders might also be eligible for an open work permit.
